Humanities

At Tootgarook Primary School we put an emphasis on teaching a core body of knowledge in the Humanities (Geography, History, Civics and Citizenship and Economics and Business). We believe that strong foundational knowledge is essential to understanding our world, comprehending a wide range of texts, and participating effectively in society.

Our Humanities units aim to deepen students’ understanding of the world that they live in, being provided with opportunities to explore a diverse range of information.

Humanities continuously has a priority of linking in the histories and ways of life of our First Nations People, ensuring students understand how our country’s foundational peoples survived on these lands as the longest living culture on the planet.

Across all key areas, students are given explicit instruction on the key learning areas of the F-6 Humanities curriculum and  supports students to achieve academic excellence through carefully planned and sequenced topics that build cumulatively over time.
