Intervention

Intervention at Tootgarook

In 2017 a Literacy Learning Enhancement program began for students from Foundation to year 6. This program is called Levelled Literacy Intervention or LLI, a program created by Fountas and Pinnell, whose system we also use to benchmark our students in reading. The aim of the program is to target students requiring additional assistance in literacy and provide an intensive program where the students are withdrawn in a group or 3 or 4 to work on their skills and understanding in reading, writing, spelling/phonics and grammar. Each lesson runs for approximately 45 minutes, 5 days a week for 20 weeks. Students’ suitability for participation in the program is based on data, specifically their reading and writing benchmarks, English progression points and teacher observations. The program’s lessons are structured sequentially, which aims to build on their prior knowledge as well as their new skills. Students have opportunities to set individual goals, see their growth and receive feedback throughout the duration of the program.
